1. 需要 xūyào · OLD HSK 3 / NEW HSK 3

Modal v. 助动词 zhùdòngcí ▸ nearby; neighboring

• Wǒ xūyào bèi ài de gǎnjué.
  我需要被爱的感觉。
  I need (the) feeling (of) being loved.
• Wánchéng zhè xiàng gōngzuò xūyào cháng shíjiān de nǔlì.
  完成这项工作需要长时间的努力。
  To complete this “xiang” (of) work needs effort (of) long time.

n. 名词 míngcí ▸ nearby places

• Nǐ lián wǒ de xūyào dōu bú fàng zài xīn shang, wǒ zěnme gǎn hé nǐ jiéhūn?
  你连我的需要都不放在心上，我怎么敢和你结婚？
  You (do) not even put my need on (your) heart-surface, how (do) I have-courage to get-married with you?
• Bù shǎo rén xué Hànyǔ shì wèile gōngzuò de xūyào.
  不少人学汉语是为了工作的需要。
  Not-few(/many) people learn Chinese “is because” (it is) for-the-purpose-of (the) need (from their) work.

2. 要求 yāoqiú · OLD HSK 3 / NEW HSK 3

v. 动词 dòngcí ▸ to require; to demand; to request; to claim; to ask for

• Jīnglǐ yāoqiú wǒmen zuò hǎo huìyì zhǔnbèi.
  经理要求我们做好会议准备。
  (The) manager requires us to do (the) meeting preparation well-(and ready).
• Péngyou yāoqiú wǒ bǎ qián huán gěi tā.
  朋友要求我把钱还给他。
  (My) friend requires me (-) “ba”{indicating the handling of} money (-) give-back to him.

• Tā zěnme gǎn yǒu zhè zhǒng yāoqiú?
  他怎么敢有这种要求？
  How (is it that) he dares to have this type (of) demand?
• Xiàozhǎng xiǎng le yí huìr, zhōngyú tóngyì le wǒmen de yāoqiú.
  校长想了一会儿，终于同意了我们的要求。

• Zhè ge cíyǔ yòng de bú tài duì.
  这个词语用得不太对。
  This “ge” word (is) used (with the state of being) not too correct.

4. 造句 yāoqiú · - / -

v. 动词 dòngcí ▸ to make a sentence

• Lǎoshī yāoqiú wǒmen yòng xué guo de cíyǔ zàojù.
  老师要求我们用学过的词语造句。
  (The) teacher requires us to use words (that we have) learned to make-sentences.
• Zàojù shì xuéxí shēngcí de hǎo bànfǎ.
  造句是学习生词的好办法。
  Making-sentences is (a) good method to learn new-words.

Detachable Compound 离合词 líhécí ▸ to make a sentence

• “Yāoqiú” zhè ge cǐyǔ kěyǐ zào shénme jù?
  “要求”这个词语可以造什么句？
  This “ge” word (which is) “yāoqiú” (-) what sentence can (be) made (with it)?
• Wǒ yòng zhè ge shēngcí zào le yí ge jù.
  我用这个生词造了一个句。
  I used this “ge” (of) new-word made one “ge” (of) sentence.

5. 够 gòu · OLD HSK 6 / NEW HSK 4

v. 动词 dòngcí ▸ to be enough; to be adequate

• Měi ge cíyǔ zào liǎng ge jù jiù gòu le.
  每个词语造两个句就够了。
  Every “ge” (of) word (-) make two “ge” (of) sentences “then” (it) is-enough.
• Zhè xiē qián gòu bu gòu? Rúguǒ yǐhòu hái yǒu xūyào de huà jiù gàosu wǒ.
  这些钱够不够？如果以后还有需要的话就告诉我。
  (Is) these money enough (or) not enough? If (in the) time (that is) after (now) (you) additionally have need then tell me.

adv. (of degree) 程度副词 chéngdù fùcí ▸ enough, indicating high degree

• Nǐ duì wǒ de zhàogù yǐjīng gòu hǎo le, wǒ hái néng yǒu shénme yāoqiú a!
  你对我的照顾已经够好了，我还能有什么要求啊！
  (The) care (that is from) you to me (is) already adequately good, what demand can I moreover have?
• Zhè cì zhùyuàn zhù de gòu jiǔ le, wǒ zhēn xiǎng mǎshàng chūyuàn.
  这次住院住得够久了，我真想马上出院。
  This time (I) am-hospitalized (for) adequately long, I really want to right-away be-discharged-from-hospital.

6. 容易 róngyì · OLD HSK 3 / NEW HSK 3

adj. 词形容 xíngróngcí ▸ 1) easy (to do); 2) being likely to; the possibility of some kind of change being high

• Shéi de shēnghuó dōu yǒu bù róngyì de dìfang.
  谁的生活都有不容易的地方。
  Everyone’s life all has aspects (that are) not easy.
• Tā zhème róngyì shēngqì, zěnme néng jiějué wèntí ne?
  他这么容易生气，怎么能解决问题呢？
  He (is) so easily be-upset, how can (he) solve (the) problem?

We can also use the adjective phrase 好(不)容易 to mean ▸ really not easy; really difficult:

For Example:

• Nǐ hǎo(bù)róngyì lái yí cì Běijīng, jiù duō wánr jǐ tiān ba!
  你好不容易来一次北京，就多玩儿几天吧！
  你好容易来一次北京，就多玩儿几天吧！
  You come to Beijing (for) one time not-easily, then play (for) several more days!

7. 检查 jiǎnchá · OLD HSK 3 / NEW HSK 3

v. 动词 dòngcí ▸ to check; to examine

• Sān shí suì yǐhòu, yīnggāi měi nián dào yīyuàn jiǎnchá yí cì shēntǐ.
  三十岁以后，应该每年到医院检查一次身体。
  (In the) time (that is) after 30 years(-old), (people) should every year go-to (the) hospital to examine (their) bodies (for) one time.
• Kǎo wán shì yǐhòu rúguǒ hái yǒu shíjiān, kěyǐ zài jiǎnchá yí xià zuò guo de tí duì bu duì.
  考完试以后如果还有时间，可以再检查一下做过的题对不对。
  (In the) time (that is) after finish-taking (the) test if (you) additionally have time, (you) can again check “really quick” (the) test-questions (that you have) done (being) correct (or) not correct.

• Zhè liǎng ge guójiā de yǔyán shì xiāngtóng de.

  These two “ge” (of) countries’ language is (something that is of) the-same.
• Zhè liǎng ge cíyǔ suīràn yìsi xiāngtóng, dànshì yòngfǎ bù xiāngtóng.
  这两个词语虽然意思相同，但是用法不相同。
  These two “ge” (of) words (-) though meanings (are) the-same, but (theirs) usage (are) not the-same.

9. 比较 bǐjiào · OLD HSK 3 / NEW HSK 3

v. 动词 dòngcí ▸ to contrast; to compare

• Xiǎoshíhou, wǒ zuì bu xǐhuan fùmǔ ná biérén jiā de háizi hé wǒ bǐjiào.
  小时候，我最不喜欢父母拿别人家的孩子和我比较。
  (At the) time (when I was) little, I the-most (did) not like (my) parents taking other family’s child to compare (them) with me.
• Zhēn shì bù bǐjiào bù zhīdào a, zhè zhǒng xīn yào qǐ zuòyòng kuài de duō!

  (The) problems found (by the) examination (of) this time (were) fairly many, everyone need-to pay-attention.
• Wǒ duì zhè ge chéngshì wèilái de fāzhǎn bǐjiào dānxīn.
  我对这个城市未来的发展比较担心。
  I quite worry-(about) (the) future development (of) this “ge” (of) city.
