  • Zàijiàn, wǒ huì xiǎng nǐ de.
    再见,我会想你的。
    Bye, I will miss you -de.

  • Zàijiàn, bié wàng le gěi wǒ dǎ diànhuà!
    再见,别忘了给我打电话!
    Bye, not forget to for me make phone-call!

  • Qǐngwèn, zhèlǐ yǒu méi yǒu WiFi?
    请问,这里有没有WiFi?
    Excuse-me, here “exists”-not-“exist” WiFi?
    Excuse-me, (does) here “exist” WiFi (or) not?

 EXAMPLE SENTENCES 

  • Wǒ hái bù zhīdào nǐ de míngzi.
    我还不知道你的名字。
    I still not know you -de- name.
    I still (do) not know your name.
  • Nǐ zhīdào zhè ge cí de yìsi ma?
    你知道这个词的意思吗?
    You know this “ge” word -de- meaning -ma?
    (Do) you know (the) meaning (of) this “ge” (of) word?

  好 hǎo

adj. ▸ good

 EXAMPLE SENTENCES 

  • Jīntiān de tiānqì hěn hǎo.
    今天的天气很好。
    Today -de- weather very good.
    Today’s weather (is) very good.
  • Nǐ de Zhōngwén zhēn hǎo!
    你的中文真好!
    You -de- Chinese really good!
    Your Chinese (is) really good!

 EXAMPLE SENTENCES 

  • Xièxie nǐ bāng wǒ ná xíngli.
    谢谢你帮我拿行李。
    Thank you help me carry luggage.
    Thank you (that you) helped me carry (the) luggage.
  • Xièxie nǐ sòng gěi wǒ de lǐwù, wǒ hěn xǐhuan!
    谢谢你送给我的礼物,我很喜欢!
    Thank you gift me -de- present, I very like!
    Thank (to the) present (that) you gifted me, I quite like (it)!

you're welcome

 EXAMPLE SENTENCES 

  • Búkèqi, zhè shì wǒ yīnggāi zuò de.
    不客气,这是我应该做的。
    You’re welcome, this is I should do -de.
    You’re welcome, this is (what) I should do.
  • Búkèqi, nǐ xǐhuan jiù hǎo.
    不客气,你喜欢就好。
    You’re welcome, you like “then” good.
    You’re welcome, (if) you like (it) then (everything’s) good.

  对不起 duìbuqǐ

v. ▸ sorry

 EXAMPLE SENTENCES 

  • Duìbuqǐ, wǒ lái wǎn le.
    对不起,我来晚了。
    Sorry, I come late -le.
    Sorry, I came late.
  • Duìbuqǐ, wǒ wàng le nǐ de shēngrì.
    对不起,我忘了你的生日。
    Sorry, I forget -le you -de- birthday.
    Sorry, I forgot your birthday.

it doesn’t matter; that’s all right

 EXAMPLE SENTENCES 

  • Méiguānxi, wǒ kěyǐ děng nǐ.
    没关系,我可以等你。
    That’s all right, I can wait-for you.
    That’s all right, I can wait-for you.
  • Méiguānxi, zhè bú shì nǐ de cuò.
    没关系,这不是你的错。
    That’s all right, this not is you -de- fault.
    That’s all right, this is not your fault.

v. ▸ to say; to speak

 EXAMPLE SENTENCES 

  • Nǐ shuō shénme?
    你说什么?
    You say what?
    What (did) you say?
  • Wǒ bú huì shuō Zhōngwén, nǐ néng shuō Yīngwén ma?
    我不会说中文,你能说英文吗?
    I not know-how-to speak Chinese, you can speak English -ma?
    I (do) not know-how-to speak Chinese, can you speak English?

  有 yǒu

v. ▸ to have; to own

 EXAMPLE SENTENCES 

  • Nǐ yǒu nǚpéngyou ma?
    你有女朋友吗?
    You have girlfriend -ma?
    (Do) you have (a) girlfriend?
  • Wǒ yǒu yí ge wèntí xiǎng wèn nǐ.
    我有一个问题想问你。
    I have one “ge” question to want to ask you.
    I have one “ge” (of) question (and I) want to ask you.

  朋友 péngyou

n. ▸ friend

 EXAMPLE SENTENCES 

  • Wǒmen shì hěn duō nián de péngyou le.
    我们是很多年的朋友了。
    We are very many year -de- friend -le.
    We are friends (of) very many years (already).
  • Wǒ xǐhuan hé péngyou yìqǐ liáotiān.
    我喜欢和朋友一起聊天。
    I like with friend together to chat.
    I like chatting together with (my) friends.

 EXAMPLE SENTENCES 

  • Nǐ juéde Zhōngwén nán ma?
    你觉得中文难吗?
    You think Chinese difficult -ma?
    (Do) you think Chinese (is) difficult?
  • Wǒ zuìjìn zài xué Zhōngwén.
    我最近在学中文。
    I recent-times “zai” learn Chinese.
    I am learning Chinese (in) recent-times.

  喂 wèi

interj. ▸ hey; hello (on the phone)

 EXAMPLE SENTENCES 

  • Wèi, qǐngwèn nín zhǎo shéi?
    喂?请问您找谁?
    Hello? “Please-ask” you seek who?
    Hello? May(-I-)ask who (do) you want to talk to?
  • Wèi, nǐ de dōngxi diào le!
    喂,你的东西掉了!
    Hey, you -de- thing drop -le!
    Hey, your stuff dropped!

  去 qù

v. ▸ to go; to go over

 EXAMPLE SENTENCES 

  • Nǐ qù nǎr?
    你去哪儿?
    You go where?
    Where (are) you going?
  • Wǒ qù chāoshì mǎi dōngxi.
    我去超市买东西。
    I go to supermarket to buy stuff.
    I (am) going to (the) supermarket to buy stuff.

 EXAMPLE SENTENCES 

  • Wǒ yào yì bēi kělè hé yí ge hànbǎo.
    我要一杯可乐和一个汉堡。
    I want one cup coke and one “ge” hamburger.
    I want one cup (of) coke and one “ge” (of) hamburger.
  • Wǒ hé tā dōu shì dàxuéshēng.
    我和他都是大学生。
    I and he both are college-student.
    Me and him are both college-students.

  今天 jīntiān

n. ▸ today

 EXAMPLE SENTENCES 

  • Jīntiān shì xīngqī jǐ?
    今天是星期几?
    Today is week-“which number”?
    What day(-of-the-)week is today?
  • Jīntiān wǒ xiǎng zài jiā xiūxi.
    今天我想在家休息。
    Today I want to “zai(in/on/at...)” home rest.
    Today I want to rest at home.

 EXAMPLE SENTENCES 

  • Nà ge rén shì shéi?
    那个人是谁?
    That “ge” person is who?
    Who is that “ge” (of) person?
  • Nǐmen yígòng jǐ ge rén?
    你们一共几个人?
    You-guys in-total which-number “ge” people?
    You-guys - how-many “ge” (of) people are there in-total?

  叫 jiào

v. ▸ to be called

 EXAMPLE SENTENCES 

  • Wǒ jiào Lìli, nǐ jiào shénme míngzi?
    我叫力力,你叫什么名字?
    I am-called Lili, you are-called what name?
    I am-called Lili, what name are you called?
  • Tā de gǒu jiào Xiǎobái.
    他的狗叫小白。
    He -de- dog is-called Little-white.
    His dog is-called Little-white.

 EXAMPLE SENTENCES 

  • Nǐ yǒu Zhōngwén míngzi ma?
    你有中文名字吗?
    You have Chinese name -ma?
    (Do) you have (a) Chinese name?
  • Wǒ xǐhuan nǐ de míngzi, hěn tèbié.
    我喜欢你的名字,很特别。
    I like you -de- name, very special.
    I like your name, (it is) very special.
