Grammar 3: Plural Form in Chinese - Particle 们 · HSK 1

men 们 plural particle

们 is the Particle we use to express plural form in Chinese. It is pronounced in the Neutral Tone, and can be attached after a word that refers to people to indicate "more than one". It is mostly used after Personal Pronouns in Chinese. For example:

  • nǐmen
    你们
    you guys
  • wǒmen
    我们
    we; us

It can also be be used after some nouns that refers to people. For example:

  • lǎoshīmen
    老师们
    teachers
  • xuéshengmen
    学生们
    students
  • péngyoumen
    朋友们
    friends

It is rarely used after other nouns(eg. animals...) unless it is a rhetorical way to humanize them.

If Tā and Tā are gonna be men and women and that they sound the same,how do you know that it is man or women?

If we don’t feel comfortable or confident in speaking, but better at writing, how would we improve at speaking? I am not that good at speaking, and when I record myself, I have to think of the next word instead of saying it at a fast pace.
