I’m sorry but why is the idea of radicals not defined in this lesson? You don’t give any explanation of what they are, you just start talking about them as if we should already know what a radical is. Not trying to be rude but I am not happy that such an important detail was overlooked in this lesson. I hope the rest of the course is more comprehensive than this.

ChineseFor.UsAcademic Team July 5, 2024 at 11:04 am

Sorry for the confusion, the concept of Radicals was explained in one of our previous courses called Hands-on Writing, which is listed as a course to study before this course in our Learning Road Map.

the lessons are very light and easy to learn, memorize even practicing. Grateful

你 好. 我 較 David. What up, fellow learners? I’ve been studying Chinese for about nine months. When I signed up for this program, I decided to start at the very beginning to plug any holes in my basic knowledge (and there definitely are some). I like the clarity and structure of the explanations.

“我 is a simple character also called 独体字 in Chinese.” What does 独体字 mean and what is it’s significance? Thanks in advance for responding!

Thanks a lot. It’s very helpful indeed. (^^)

I can write 我,but I don’t know how write special letter pinyin (ǒ,ǎ,ǚ) from keyboard. 🙁

hailePremium Student April 1, 2020 at 10:14 am

你好。You can type the normal character o, a or u. It will show all Chinese words on your keyboard (click to the arrow on the right side to have full board) and you just need to choose the one that you want to use. I hope this help 🙂

This was my first “hands on” lesson! Thanks a lot for this wonderful course. The only point of attention was installing Baidu Input on blind flight, as the page is only in mandarin, as far as I could see.

谢谢你 Donald, we’re so glad you like our Chinese course, we wish you the best of luck learning Chinese!

How can I get practice sheet for my practice writing Chinese characters? Without practice writing it is very difficult and takes so much time and effort to make characters look like original…

eugendPremium Student February 12, 2018 at 3:54 am

Professionally done, and very clear. One question – are there any practice sheet available to practice writing the characters 我,叫,姓,你,好?

It’s really a great idea to include the Chinese character writing sheets and we’re already thinking about adding them. We’ll send notifications once they’re ready!

Just an update, we have included writing sheets for all character lessons now!

…but what do xing and hao have to do with being female? Would it change if a male is speaking?

Thanks for the question! The characters do not change. Both 姓 and 好 had something to do with “女 female” when they were created thousands of years ago but now their most common meaning aren’t related to “female”.
Also the gender of the speaker does not change how the character is written.
