    A 把 B + v. + 给 ~

GRAMMAR

Grammar 1. A 把 B + v. + 在/给 ~

Bǎzìjù Hé Jiècí Zài/Gěi ▸ The 把 Sentences With Preposition 在/给

See also 把字句 (Bǎzìjù ▸The 把 Sentences) Part 1.

The 把 Sentences can be more complicated when used with Preposition 在/给. The 把 Sentences With Preposition 在/给 follows two structures:

(1) A 把 B + v. + ( 在 +Place/Location... )

The part "在~" is a Prepositional Phrase, used as the Compliment of the verb. For example,

  • Wǒ bǎ nà fú huà guà zài qiáng shang le.
    我把那幅画挂在墙上了。
    I (-) “ba{indicating the handling of}” (-) that “fu” (of) painting (-) hang on (the) wall-surface (already).
  • Wǒ bǎ yàoshi fàng zài xínglixiāng li le.
    我把钥匙放在行李箱里了。
    I (-) “ba{indicating the handling of}” (the) key (-) place in (the) luggage-inside (already).

(2) A 把 B + v. + ( 给 +Person/Organization/Department... )

The part "给~" is a Prepositional Phrase, used as the Compliment the verb. For example,

  • Gāo Shūshu bǎ lǐwù jì gěi nǐ le.
    高叔叔把礼物寄给你了。
Uncle Gao “ba{indicating the handling of}” (the) gift (-) send-by-mail to you (already).

    我们把这束花送给常阿姨吧。
(Let) us (-) “ba{indicating the handling of}” this “shu” (of) flower (-) give-as-gift to Aunt Chang.

Grammar 2. A 把 B + v. + Complements of Direction (+ Place)

▸ The 把 Sentences With Complements of Direction (+ Place)

We can also say a more complicated 把 Sentence with this strucutre:

A 把 B + v. + Complement of Direction (+ Place)

For example,

  • Wǒ bǎ dàngāo fàng jin bīngxiāng le.
    我把蛋糕放进冰箱了。
I (-) “ba{indicating the handling of}” (the) cake (-) put into (the) refrigerator.
  • Bàba bǎ háizi dài dao gōngyuán li le.
    爸爸把孩子带到公园里了。
    (The) dad (-) “ba{indicating the handling of}” (the) child taken-(with the direction of)-(making it)-arriving (the) park-inside.
  • Wǒ yǐjīng bǎ nà xiē huā fàng jin huāyuán le.
    我已经把那些花放进花园了。
    I already (-) “ba{indicating the handling of}” those flowers (-) put-(with the direction of)-(making them)-entering (the) garden.

When the place or location is already mentioned, implied or does not have to be specifically identified, it can be omitted, and we follow this structure:

A 把 B + v. + Complement of Direction

For example,

  • Qù gōngyuán de shíhou, wǒmen bǎ xiǎo māo yě dài qu le.
    去公园的时候,我们把小猫也带去了。
(At the) time (of) going to (the) park, we (-) “ba{indicating the handling of}” (the) little cat) (-) also brought-over.
  • Tā bǎ shǒu ná kai le.
    他把手拿开了。He (-) “ba{indicating the handling of}” (his) hand (-) took-(with the direction of)-moving-away.
    [He had his hand moved-away/gotten-off/removed.]
  • Dìdi bǎ xiàngjī huán lai le.
    弟弟把相机还来了。 (The) little brother (-) “ba{indicating the handling of}” (the) camera (-) returned-(with the direction of)-(making it)-coming-towards (already).
