We've learned a few ways to do comparison in Chinese before, in today's lesson there are two more ways, the first one uses a Quantified Noun (Phrase).

❖ A Quantified Noun (Phrase) is as such:

Number	Measure Word	Noun (Phrase)
liǎng 两 two	qiānmǐ 千米 kilometer	/
yì 一 one	jīn 斤 "jin" (=500g)	/
shí 十 ten	kuài 块 "kuai"	qián 钱 money

We make the comparison with this structure:

A比B + adj. + Quantified Noun (Phrase)

For example,

Gēge bǐ wǒ dà sìsuì.
哥哥比我大四岁。
(My) big brother “comparing with me” (is) old(er) (by) 4 years.
Zhè tiáo hēi sè de kùzi bǐ nà tiáo bái sè de kùzi duǎn liǎng límǐ.
这条黑色的裤子比那条白色的裤子短两厘米。
This “tiao” (of) black-color pants “comparing with” that “tiao” (of) white-color pants (are) short(er) (by) 2 centimeters.
Wǒ de shùxué chéngjì bǐ Xiǎo Guān de dī wǔ fēn.
我的数学成绩比小关的低五分。
My math score “comparing with” Little Guan’s (is) low(er) (by) 5 points.
Zhè jiàn chènshān bǐ nà jiàn chènshān piányi yì bǎi kuài qián.
这件衬衫比那件衬衫便宜一百块钱。
This “jian” (of) shirt “comparing with” that “jian” (of) shirt (is) cheap(er) (by) 100 “kuai” money.

Grammar 2. Comparison In Chinese With A 比 B 还 + adj.

We can also make comparison in Chinese with this structure, with 还 to stress "an even higher degree".

A 比 B 还 + adj.

For example,

Jīntiān de zuòyè bǐ zuótiān hái duō, wǒ zěnme xiě de wán?
今天的作业比昨天还多，我怎么写得完？
Today’s homework “comparing with” yesterday(’s) (is) even more, how am I able to finish writing (it)?
Wǒ shuìjiào shuì de hěn qīng, jīngcháng shuì bu hǎo, kě tā shuì de bǐ wǒ hái qīng.
我睡觉睡得很轻，经常睡不好，可他睡得比我还轻。
I sleep very light, (and I) often sleep-without-the-potential-of-sleeping-well, but he sleeps “comparing with” me even light(ter).
Xiǎogǒu chī de bǐ gǒu mama hái duō.
小狗吃得比狗妈妈还多。
(The) puppy eats “comparing with” (the) mom dog even more.

❖ Compare these three structures:

lower degree ↓ higher degree	A 比 B + adj.
	A 比 B 更^{non-stressed tone} + adj.
	A 比 B 更^{stressed tone} + adj.	A 比 B 还 + adj.
